Canton Wok

We went to Canton Wok near Joo Chiat for my father-in-law's Birthday Celebration. I have to say the food there was really good we had a 9 course dinner, it was their set dinner and the food is really good.

1) Wasabi Paste Prawns

As the name suggest it was wasabi with thousand island dressing mix with prawns. Not bad.

2) Sharks Fin in Pumpkin Pot

Here's a picture of the pumpkin pot, pretty innovative little thing. The soup was tasty.

3) Steam Garoupa

A huge fresh garoupa steam with soya sauce and herbs. I love this fish best eaten hot.

4) Jelly Fish with Duck and Goose Liver

Oooooo... the goose liver was outstanding but I think if you eat too much you will get a little tired of the taste. I'm not a duck person but this was really good.

5) Vegetable Soup

Some kind of vegetable I think it was spinach with wolfberries, the soup was really outstanding one of the best dishes.

6) Steam Crab

This was really unique, it was steam crab but in a creamy sauce which was something unique and it was great the sauce was really to die for.

7) Crispy Bun

With the crab sauce, you can dip your crispy buns in them, yummy !!! The kids love this.

8) Bee Hoon

A very very tasty bee hoon, a great tasty to it.

9) Dessert

A cold dessert, quite normal if you ask me.

Well I have to say the best 3 dishes of the night would have to be the Steam Crab, Veggie Soup and the Goose Liver. All the dishes were great highly recommended to come and try it if you have not done so yet.

SuperFly

This little guy came flying and landed on my car's window. As I drove out it just hanged on there, it was amazing how it could just stick on the window. He managed to stick on all the way till I got to the expressway, then I slowly increase speed, 50 km/h .... 60 km/h he was still there on the window. 70 km/h still there, only at 80 km/h did it finally drop off. Amazing !!

F. O. M.

Early this week, the missus got home all excited and she said 'Guess What!' so I said 'What?' and she says 'Guess!' and I say 'What?' and this goes on for a bit until finally she says that she has been voted for a photo shoot to be one of the Faces of the company or as I would call it Face of 'M' {replace M with company name :)}

So the whole week she goes on about what to wear and all excited about the photo shoot. Of course the poor sod, me has to do all the ironing to ensure that the correct suit/dress/jumper/t-shirt/shirt/pants/skirt/blouse etc. is in perfect shape. Luckily she found what she wanted to wear fast.

Finally the day came for the shoot and it went well. Just can't wait to see the photos once they get those develop wonder if the company will let her keep some copies.

Taxi Ride

Yesterday Tuesday I had 2 very very interesting taxi rides. I was getting a cab from the Business District to my office and it was in the later afternoon. Waited at the designated taxi stand to get the cab since now they can't stop anywhere in town. For some unknown reason I think I got them during their transition period as not 1, not 2 but at least 5 cabs came up and asked if I was going to a particular area as they all seem to have passengers to pick up or are changing shift and no one was going to my area.

Anyways finally got a cab and there was a huge thunderstorm then, as the cab was driving back he cut in NYP and we saw this lady who decided to go to her car I think in the thunderstorm. It's one of those thunderstorms where if you just step in the rain for a minute you would get soaked. She was even walking very causally. Not only that she was carrying her handbag, a file and her laptop bag as well. I think everything must have been soaked. The car park was not near. Cab driver commented the lady must be crazy.

Later I needed to take a cab to town, the driver seems to be a quiet guy, just drove along with no conversation until came to an intersection where he got stuck in the yellow box. He wanted to turn out and started horning to the car in front, started gesturing to the other driver to get the car to move up a bit so he has some space to turn. After lots of horning he got by, stop beside the car, wound down the window and started yelling at the other driver. I was rather shocked, but in the end he drove off.

hhhmmmm ... what are the odds of having these two unique experiences in a day :)

Washing Day

There's a ritual that is performed when we do our laundry. As with the water conservation theme, we do collect the laundry water from the washing machine and use it to wash the toilet floors. We got a new machine as our previous one was making a little noise when it starts the spin cycle. But that little fellow has been with us for about 7 /8 years so I guess it was time for it to go to Washing Machine Haven.

The run off hose was a little short to reach the drainage pipe so we added an extension. To get the water into the pails takes timing and skill. It's like a well-oiled Formula One Pit-Stop. The missus has this uncanny ability to tell when the spin cycle would start and will always call me once it is time. In all our married years she has yet to get it wrong.

Once the call comes in that the spin cycle is about to start. We get ready, The 2 pails are placed side by side, the bigger one always goes first. Once the run off starts, let it flow for a few seconds, then up goes the pipe into the big pail, once full, the tricky switch to the small pail is next. When that is filled it's back into the drainage pipe. All the while you got to keep your eye on the connecting pipe to ensure that there is no spillage.

All this done in 56.32 secs, well not exactly an F1 pit-stop timing but you get the idea :)

Shokudo

Had our Staff Conference yesterday Friday and met up with the missus after that at City Hall for dinner, walked around the basement and found this new eatery (well I think it's new) Shokudo. It's a Japanese Eatery in the fashion of Marche where you are given a card (below) and you go around the 'market-like' establishment to order your food with the card. You pay when you exit the establishment.

It's basically a Japanese eatery, a fairly good variety, was at a lost as to what to order. In the end decided to go with some noodle soup, sushi, grilled octopus, spicy seafood soup which was not really spicy and this seafood egg roll thingy which was really excellent.

Notice the rather large chinese chess type token that you use to reserve the tables. I think you have to bring those to the checkout counter.

It's really popular as we arrived early around 6.15pm or so and we got a seat but by the time we left an hour later there was a huge queue forming to get in.
