Earth Hour 09

Well we wanted to participate in today's Earth Hour so for the day we took Public Transport to town instead of diving the car and kept electrical usage down to a minimum. However Earth Hour had to be between 8.30pm and 9.30pm which was jam smack during the screening of Star Wars : Clone Wars which starts at 9pm. So only did a half hour lights off for the night. Not going to miss my Clone Wars now am I :)

Movies, Movies and More Movies

It's been a while since I wrote anything. There's a ton of movies that I want to see which have come up, So many and so little time. There's Watchmen (which hopefully I can catch today, it's ending soon I believe). Other movies on my list include :-

- Dragonball : Evolution

- Street Fighter : The Legend of Chun-Li

- Gran Torino

- Mall Cop

- Race to Witch Mountain

and of course the movie I want to definitely catch would be FANBOYS !! Well lets hope I get to see most of them.

Recently me and the missus caught a movie at GV Gold Class at Vivocity.

SNC00070

I have to add that it was actually a free pair of tickets which we won recently, after all no way am I going to pay for $36 movie ticket.

$36

That definitely is the most expensive Movie Ticket ever, well not exactly probably those gala movie preview stuff are equally expensive. Anyways we caught the movie Marley and Me. What do you get for $36, well a nice big armchair seat which can recline all the way down so you can be practically lying down and watching the movie. Plus you get a blanket in case it gets too cold and ..... well that's about it. Food and Drinks are extra and they cost a bomb in there of course you get the items served to you in the cinema. There were about 20 sets of seats (40 total) in the cinema. Surprisingly when we went to book on a Saturday it was FULL !! can you beat that and here we are in a recession. So we had to book in advance for Sunday and the cinema was full as well !! Practically everyone ordered something in there so I'm thinking each pair of tickets cost $72 and at least another $30 worth of food and beverages were sold in there to each couple. There was even a few 'set' meals where they get soups, mains and dessert ! So each pair easily $100 and for 20 pairs that's $2000 per session wonder how many sessions they have each day and you get the picture. No pun intended.

About the movie, it's a good movie not bad. Catch it if it's still around or get the DVD when it's out.

Water Zorb !!

We were at Parkway Parade last week and came across this fascinating attraction for the kids.

PP_Zorb

It really looked interesting.

PP_WaterZorb

If you ever heard of Zorbbing (I think that's how they spell it) anyways it's where you get into this plastic bubble and you roll down a hill. Well this version you get into a plastic ball and go rolling around in the pool of water. I guess it's great fun for the kids.

You start by getting into a deflating balloon and then the guys will blow air into the bubble and zip it up and off you go rolling around the pool.

It's a legion of Vader's finest or in this case probably the Singapore 501st Legion out there together with Boba Fett you can just make him out behind the Sandtrooper.

IRobot

Well not I Robot the movie but this little guy the IRobot the vacuum cleaner.

roomba

It's been a while since I post anything up on the little blog so I guess I'll start with this little contraption which is the IRobot Vacuum cleaner. We got it recently and have been using it for about a week or so and so far it's really great. We can now just go out for lunch let the guy run around the rooms and hey presto the rooms are clean when we get back and the little guys will be just sitting there in it's little docking bay recharging itself.

I think it's a great little invention. IT has this 'Base Station' or 'Docking Bay' as I call it where you plug it into the walk socket turn it on and it acts as a charger and to tell the robot cleaner to return to it once it is running out of battery or has done the cleaning job. You just press the start button and off the little sucker goes, it will back out of it's docking bay and zoom off cleaning in a what the company calls an intelligent sensor system to clean the rooms. I can say it works well the amount of dust collected was amazing since the little guy has the ability to go under and into little corners which normally we would not vacuum up. It's got this little 3 brush like extension which helps it get into corners. It's low enough to go under beds, chairs and tables. It even is able to tell when it is coming to a wall or obstacle and it slows down and gently bump into it where this shock absorber like faceplate will be depressed and it turns and goes off into another direction. It is even able to sense drop offs and will not fall off a table which is good when it senses the drop off near the bathrooms. It's easy to clear the dust just pull out the back compartment and dump the dust out. It comes with what they call a 'virtual wall' which is a device which produces a IR beam that makes the robot think there is a wall there and turns away. It is also able to do 'SPOT' cleaner where you tell it to clean just a particular area. So far some of the drawbacks I see are that it does not sense small or thin items like chair legs and some light weight material so generally we just move those aside before we start it up.

I do really like it, I would recommend to get one and if you really want to be more advance they have the scheduler model which allows you to set when the IRobot starts clean so you can set it to start in the afternoon just before you get home from work. Further more it has saved me from all the vacuuming housework which I had to do previously ha ha  ... :)
