Women's Take on the World Cup

I was talking to the missus recently and she said that her office is rather divided on who will win the world cup in South Africa. There were generally 2 camps the Brazillian camp and the Spanish Camp. She decided to go with the Spanish guys which I told her was also my choice for this year ...... well that was until she read in the papers and saw the Italian team. She told me she should have sided with the Italians to win the World Cup ... her logic was that they were cutier !! Guys that's the way the ladies are going to pick the winner. But after their first round match, I think Spain is going to be on the next flight out of S. Africa.

Oh I spotted the Holland cows. So now there are Holland, German and Spanish cows around the island, maybe they put up for all teams.

It Begins !!!

Finally the Football World Cup 2010 held in South Africa is upon us. It starts today and for the next month we can expect more late nights. But going by the timings of around 7pm, 10pm and 2am it does not look that bad for a start.

I saw those 'cow' signboards up around town again. This time with a Football theme. Sae the Spain and German 'cows' in their respective national soccer outfits. Quite nice and they had a football even. Did not take a pic as I was driving at that time. Hopefully they don't get vandalised or stolen by some over zealous fans !!

World Cup Fever

It’s yet that time of the season again. Once every 4 years the world’s greatest footballing nations meet to determine the best of the best …. well most times anyways. This year South Africa plays host to football’s biggest event the World Cup.

Singapore on the other hand just recently confirmed the live screening of the world cup. But the subscription is just too expensive for me and I will not be subscribing to it. Guess it’s off to the local coffee-shops to catch the matches I want to watch. Over the last few editions I have been using an excel sheet that tracks the team and scores. This round would have been no different except that a friend sent me a new version with team photo’s and flags, guess that will be used this round.

I also have my manual chart to compliment the electronic version. It’s up in my kitchen all ready to be filled in in the coming month.

So who am I rooting for. Always fancied the outsiders. Would love to see Asia – South Korea and Japan – do well even the Oceania regions like Australia and New Zealand maybe hope to produce an upset or two. I’ll probably be rooting for these teams but the one team I would like to see win this edition would be Spain.

Finisher Photo

Finally had time to find my photo from the Adidas Sunsdown Event. Seems I am not alone on the issue with the badly organised event. There were letters to the forum pages as well and on Sunday the day after the event I was having dinner with some colleagues who happen to have run the event and they too complain about the event organisation.

That’s me at the end of the Half Marathon, holding the finisher medal and pointing to my bid number 2012. Well guess now it’s to look forward to the next event. Likely the Sheares Bridge Run doing the half marathon again. Well actually the next event will be the World Cup. More on that in my next post.
