Singapore F1 - 28th September 2008 (Final)

WHAT A RACE !!! WOW !!!

It threaten to rain in the afternoon, but luckily it did not as I had decided to bring my video cam this round to get the atmosphere right plus the pictures that came out were not that great as the cars were whizzing by at incredible speeds, F1 cars don't brake for corners it looks like !

Surprise surprise, I met my brother-in-law as I entered, of all the 7 gates and with each gate there are at least 5 lanes, what is the probability that I picked the correct gate and correct lane that my brother-in-law was working at. (must have something to do with Liverpool's 2-0 win over Everton as well) He was there helping with the ticketing, another 2 brother-in-law's were chauffeuring and the last one had a ticket and was walking around the F1 Park. I also met my usher friend who could not get the T-Shirt he wanted as they were all sold out. I bought a McLaren T-Shirt on the second day and was I lucky as it was the last one and it was my size as well. Today it was sold out as well as beach towels which I was hoping to get today but alas all gone, lots of other stuff were sold out as well. Those guys must really be making tons of money from the event. I was at the entrance to the Paddock area again this afternoon and Nakajima came buy, everyone was taking his picture and I got a few shots as well. (photo's later more on him later too) I watched some of the other races and soon it was the main event !

6.30pm they had the Driver's Track Parade where all Driver's were taken round the track in antique convertibles waving to the crowds as they drove round the track. The starting grid was set and at 8pm the race started with the warm up lap and the 5 red lights went off and they were racing ! First lap as the cars came round the Padang Grandstand where I was everyone stood up and camera's were going off left, right and centre. The atmosphere, sound and smell was amazing ! That happen for a few laps every time the cars came round everyone stood up. Soon everything settled into place, the Ferrari fans were having a good time, flag waving and all that.

The first incident happen around the 10 to 15 lap could not remember which, Renault's car spun and crashed out, the safety car was deployed and another car retired as well I think it was Reubens who retired near the hairpin turn at Fullerton, he was really nice seems later he walked up to the crowd and threw his head mask or gloves to the crowd but somehow it ended up in Marina Bay, he was seen shaking hands and having his photo taken with some of the lucky spectators there. Ferrari made a HUGE error with their pit stop for Filipe and that resulted in their fuel man getting thrown to the ground and the fuel hose still attached to his car as he drove off, that practically killed his chances for any points and he was leading at that point, a loud 'oooohhhhh' was heard from the crowds. More drama on the roads as a few cars were penalised and another 2 more crashes late in the race at the Bay Grandstand and the other one was near where I was seated just after the bend it happened to Ferrari. bad luck for them. A few Ferrari fans decided to leave early knowing their team was out of the running. The guy seating next to me was a Ferrari fan he came in red and had a Ferrari bag as well, he started cursing and swearing at the teams bad luck. Guess after the race Ferrari merchandise can go for half price ha ha ....

In the end Alonso took the chequed flag, Nico Rosberg was second and Lewis Hamilton was third. Nakajima came in 8th woo hooo .... I'll post the pictures another time once I copy them out of the camera.
